1795 O.111 (R-4+). Three Leaves Below Each Wing. Repunched Date. Extremely Fine. Here is a graphically original specimen of this variety featuring light silver-gray at the obverse center deepening to lavender and golden-gray toward the peripheries. The reverse is much more deeply toned in pearl gray, with light olive lustre glowing in the protected areas. The severe die crack on the reverse has separated the coin's surface into two planes, with the higher level, upper half of the reverse being subject to more advanced wear than the lower level, bottom half of the reverse. Overton 111 is our favorite 1795 variety, as it combines the two major Redbook listed types: the rare Three Leaves Below Each Wing type and the boldly Repunched Date that is visible even to the unaided eye. NGC XF40.
