1814 JR.1 (R-3). Small Date. Gem Brilliant Uncirculated. Gorgeous toning ranges from sea-green to bright yellow-gold over vibrant lustre. The strike is very sharp save for a couple of obverse stars and the eagle's claws, both areas notoriously soft on this die pairing. A middle die state with minor clashing present around the eagle and swelling through 'ICA'. Liberty's cheek and the fields are especially clean, and the present coin is certainly in the Condition Census for the variety and at least tied with four others reported at the Gem level. A memorable coin of exceptional quality and one of the highlights of this extensive run of Capped Bust Dimes.
Ex Samuel W. Wolfson Collection, Part II (Stack's, May 1963, lot 520).
