1795 S.76B. ONE CENT high, Plain Edge, Single Leaves. About Uncirculated-50 or nearly so. A very attractive coin for the grade, with excellent surfaces and pleasing light tan to brown color. No rim bumps or scratches distract the eye, and there is no trace of porosity or pitting. The strike is typically sharp, and a hair off center on the upper right obverse. The rim at this location is raised slightly above 'BERTY', similar to the knife rim seen on later Proof issues. Perhaps the collar or die was not quite perfectly aligned when the present coin was struck, which would account for this rim feature. For the type collector, this is one of the more available issues, but finding a high grade, pleasing coin such as the present example is always a challenge. For those collectors who demand quality, the present offering is worth the wait and premium price.
Ex Hall Collection, according to consignor's notes.
