1869 An evenly struck About Uncirculated example, and displaying traces of prooflike surface in the most protected areas of the design. A few very light obverse marks are visible with a glass, both at Liberty's temple and near the eleventh star. These defects, however, are entirely consistent with the quality of this very rare coin, and are mentioned only for the sake of accuracy. Of the tiny 1760 piece mintage, it is highly unlikely that more than 75 survivors remain. Of these survivors, there are no more than 2 or 3 pieces that legitimately reach the Mint State category!
Ex Martin F. Kortjohn Collection (Stack's, October 19, 1979, lot 173).
