 1800 Tar.23, Br.1-A (R-4). Large Stars, E over Space. The only die variety of this date and the latest state of this variety recorded by Taraszka. Brilliant Uncirculated from the point of view of actual wear. Well struck and retaining its fair share of assertive definition on either side. A relatively advanced obverse die crack rambles along the top of LIBERTY. This deep yellow-golden coin is free of actual circulation, however the surfaces exhibit noticeable hairlines from a harsh cleaning. The right obverse field furthermore, has been extensively tooled, more than likely to remove an unsightly surface mark. Although this coin certainly exhibits its share of problems, it remains both popular and quite rare.
This late die state displays a thin vertical reverse crack that runs from the denticles through the tip of the stem, and on to the border of the shield just to the right of the eagle's tailfeathers. Interestingly, Taraszka points out that this die state is a later remarriage of these dies, used to once again strike 1800 Eagles after the use of this reverse on the 1801 Tar.24 Eagles.
