This yellow-golden, frosty specimen retains nicely balanced fields and design elements. The surface quality, lustre, and visual allure are all quite impressive for an example of this very rare Philadelphia Mint issue. The business strike mintage for this date totals a pitifully small 1660 coins. With there being perhaps a mere handful of full Mint State survivors, high quality circulated pieces such as that offered here are of the utmost interest to collectors within this series.

Ex Dr. George J. Oviedo, Jr. and August Zaleski Collections (Stack's, September 14, 1983, lot 430).
