 1865/981'S' Normal Date over Inverted Date. Breen 6948. A lovely, perfect Fine specimen of this most amazing repunched date variety. Upon first try, the die preparer punched the date logotype upside down into the die. Upon realizing his mistake, he punched in the date correctly but did not do a very thorough job of effacing his initial mistake, leaving this amazing die variety for future generations of collectors to enjoy. Glowing copper-orange toning at the peripheries lends added life to this evenly worn, mustard orange specimen.
