 1880 Very Choice Cameo Proof. Here is a nearly unimprovable specimen of the Proof-only year. The central devices on each side are fully frosty. They stand out in cameo contrast to the deeply mirrored, watery fields. There are the faintest hints of pale steel toning. The coin was very sharply struck and the design details stand out nicely against the shimmering watery fields. Only 1,987 were struck.
