Current Money of Virginia. Act of Assembly passed April 7, MDCCLXII [1762]. Two Pounds ('Shill's' FORTY'). No.232. Signed by Peyton Randolph and Ro.(bert) C.(arter) Nicholas. Printed on thin laid paper. 80mm by 65mm. Uniface, printed in black. Ornamental cut at the right end with the Arms and motto EN DAT VIRGINIA QUARTAM (Behold Virginia contributes one quarter of the Arms) at the upper right. Denominational conversions on the top, right end, and bottom ornamental cuts. A second Two Pounds. The paper diagnostic and plate characteristics are correct for notes of this period and similar to other genuine Ford-Boyd Virginia notes. Mostly there, Very Good to Fine. Backed on a thin sheet of paper with some edge chipping and splitting. There is a long split from the right. Notes of this period require a grading standard that runs against the grain of the old time purists. This note has a natural and whole look to it and should be bid on accordingly. Virginia notes from the Acts prior to the 1773 James River forms are rarely offered. These notes from the Ford-Boyd Collection are an incredible offering.
