Current Money of Virginia. Act of Assembly passed May 24, MDCCLX [1760]. FIVE Pounds (Twenty Crowns or 100 Shillings). No.642. Signed by Peyton Randolph and Ro.(bert) C.(arter) Nicholas. Printed on a sturdier laid paper than prior notes offered here in the Ford-Boyd Collection. 85mm by 64mm. Uniface, printed in black with ornamental cuts at the sides and denomination protectors at the top, bottom and right. The Arms and motto EN DAT VIRGINIA QUARTAM (Behold Virginia contributes one quarter of the Arms) at the upper left. A rare note and genuine. Newman cites a counterfeit for this issue, but the plate is much different. A bold looking note. This has the typical vertical split that is reinforced from the back with a strip. The upper corners are rounded, but overall the look of Fine or better. A couple nicks are offset by the dynamically penned signatures. It is difficult to communicate to the Federal Currency ''Gem Crisp Uncirculated 67'' crowd that this note is likely Condition Census for the type.
