Current Money of Virginia. Act of Assembly passed March 11, MDCCLX [1760]. FIVE Pounds (Twenty Crowns or 100 Shillings). No.66. Signed by Peyton Randolph and Ro.(bert) C.(arter) Nicholas. Printed on thinner laid paper than previous acts. 90mm by 63mm. Uniface, lead cast cuts similar to previous acts. Ornamental cut at the left with Arms at the upper right, motto EN DAT VIRGINIA QUARTAM (Behold Virginia contributes one quarter of the Arms) in scroll. Denomination conversions in the top, right side and bottom cuts. A rare series for any note. Only 1,800 notes of this denomination were authorized and few have survived. Peyton Randolph later served as President of the Continental Congress in 1774-75. Newman reports a counterfeit, but the plate details are similar to the above genuine note and the Randolph signature is strong. Good, rather trimmed in with rounded corners. Tiny slits reinforced from the verso with a thin paper sheet.
