Province of Georgia. May, 1769. One Pound Sterling. No.962. Signed by N.(oble) Jones, Gr.(ey) Elliott [both vertically, left], N.(oble) W.(imberly) Jones, John Milledge, and John Smith. Handwritten date 'Seventh' of May, 1769. Printed on laid paper in black with red text inserts. 130mm by 122mm. Special act issue 'for rebuilding the LIGHT-HOUSE ON TYBEE ISLAND, ...'. Typeset note, ornate borders on two sides, left indent with interior devices and an oddly done counterfeit warning at the base (upside down and reading in reverse). At the lower right is a lighthouse vignette. The text in red is 'THIS CERTIFICATE OF ONE', 'LIGHT-HOUSE ON TYBEE ISLAND' and 'ANNO DOMINI' on the last line. Plate variety different from handwritten date issue, particularly the lighthouse vignette which is thinner at the top. This is the variety with ''MAY, 1769'' both engraved. Fine or so, quarter folded with three splits. The bottom horizontal split is sealed with some glue. The note is quite complete, but there are folded over edges all the way around. The note still has a wonderful appearance.
