Province of Georgia. 1766. One Pound Sterling. Unnumbered remainder note with one signature, Gr.(ey) Elliott at the lower left. Printed on laid paper in black with red text inserts. 130mm by 117mm. Special act certificate 'for the encouragement of SETTLERS, and rebuilding the COURT-HOUSE in Savannah, ...' Typeset work with ornate border frame, wide at the top and bottom, and widest indent at the left. Woodblock cut vignette of the Savannah Court-House at the lower right. Much of the text is inserted in red including from the top line 'This Certificate of ONE POUND STERLING', 'Georgia', 'SETTLERS', 'COURT-HOUSE in Savannah', and the worded dates at the bottom of the text.
Extremely Fine, a crisp note, but with two heavy folds across the top and bottom which have split partially. The bottom has some back paper tip repairs, there is a back mounting hinge and some handling. The face is bright and embossing strong. The face appearance is superb nonetheless for this very scarce issue.
Newman reports a printing figure of 2,523 notes.
