Oil City Bank. $50.00. A. Oil City, PA. September 15, 1864. India paper Face Proof by American Bank...Oil City Bank. $50.00. A. Oil City, PA. September 15, 1864. India paper Face Proof by American Bank Note Co. New-York. Green grill, '50' counter under the central portrait and flanking green 'L' protectors. Female portrait at the center enclosed in a delicate wreath. At the lower left is a stern faced mechanic and at the lower right is a seated female with urn. Haxby PA-380 G12a. The issued notes used green security backs. $50.00 proofs are extremely rare. There was one example on the above mentioned sheet and we later auctioned it in our Americana sale two years ago (lot 3817) for $1,495.00. This should be worth as much or more in this developing market for desirable color proofs and dynamic vignette notes. Pressed professionally by Barrows, Richmond, Virginia at one time. Superb color and brightness. Very Choice.
