Betts 574. Dutch Fishing Fleet Escape Medal, 1781. Silver, 31mm, 11.2 grams. By Adriaan van Baerll. About Uncirculated. Obv. For Safety of Ships and People, fishing fleet flees home from threatened British attack, warned by Jacobus van der Wint. Rev. 13-line inscription. When the Netherlands joined the League of Armed Neutrality in the American Revolution, Britain declared war, seizing 200 Dutch merchant ships, a 15 million Gulden loss. Wint's exertions saved the fishing fleet from a similar fate.
