Province of Pennsylvania. June 21, 1759. Five Pounds. No.3420. Plate B. Signed by Jos.(eph) Morris, H.(enry) Harrison, and Peter Reeve. Printed on thinner paper than notes Twenty Shillings and below, standard size and designs. Printed and face back, in black and red, by B.(enjamin) Franklin and David Hall, their imprint on the back. There is red text intermingled on the face, a red border cut at top and red back text. This is a rare series, as it is a withdrawn issue. As such it is unpriced in Newman. A superb grade note, it is much finer from the face than the plated Fifty Shilling note used in Newman. Very Fine, a bright note with a light fold, some light wear and a spot of foxing by ''THIS'' in red. However, partially mounted to an old white card. The back side edges show signs of a previous, more severe mounting. Worthy of professional restoration, since if the mounting remnants ''float'' off this, it might be one of the finest notes known for the rare issue. Pencil code on the back of the card ''niyx''. An extremely important Franklin imprint note from this Crown banned issue.
Ex F.C.C. Boyd Estate.
The backing cards on all three notes are identical. They are obviously cut out from the same collection book. Perhaps, this note was something obtained at one of Stan V. Henkels' auctions by Chapman or Boyd.
