North Carolina. November 27, 1729 Act. Three Pounds. No.3516. Signed by Wm. Downing, E.(dward) Mosely, Cullen Pollack, Tho.(mas) Swann, and J.(ohn) Lovick. Printed on laid paper. 93mm by 133mm. According to Mr. Ford's notes, fully genuine. All handwritten bill, with flourished ink indent (space between has serial number) at the top and an octagonal white paper on wax seal at the bottom center. Denomination in one place and different signature placement from the Forty Shilling notes, consistent with serial No.514 and No.729 in this collection. The handwriting and signature characteristics on this note are different from the other two notes of this Act and denomination in the collection. This might make the note a contemporary counterfeit, but it is not so severe as the two counterfeit examples in the collection. Obviously, this note bears scrutiny by potential bidders to determine its value. Very Fine and a solid note. A horizontal fold, some other folds and handling. Overall, rather mottled age toning and an ink burn hole from the verso left of center. Upper right pinholes (one from being ''pin'' clipped for evidence?) and back pen endorsement bleed through. Very rare in any form.
The location of the upper right pinholes on two notes in this collection (serial No.514 and this No.3516 example) are consistent with attachment to court documents in counterfeiting cases of the period.
