Current Money of Virginia. Act of Assembly passed April 7, MDCCLXII [1762]. FIVE Pounds (100 Shillings or Twenty Crowns). No.1824. Signed by Peyton Randolph and Ro.(bert) C.(arter) Nicholas. Printed on sturdy, but thin laid paper. 77mm by 70mm. Uniface, printed in black. Ornamental cut at the right end with the Arms and motto EN DAT VIRGINIA QUARTAM (Behold Virginia contributes one quarter of the Arms) at the upper right. Denominational conversions on the top, right end, and bottom ornamental cuts. A rare series for any note. This note is stunning and clearly Condition Census for the series and type. Though Mr. Ford graded this note as ''Fine to Very Fine'', we believe that is conservative and indicative of grading standards applied in the late 1970's when working on his collection with Dr. Douglas Ball of NASCA. Realistically, this should be classified as close to Extremely Fine for the issue. Very lightly quarter folded with a partial split from the top center fold. The left border cut is trimmed and there are some other minor nicks. Back pen endorsements. There are minor ink spots at the bottom left and far right. Among the finest!
