Colony of Connecticut. May 12, 1763. Five Shillings. No.4541. Signed by George Wyllys, J.(ohn) Chester and D.(aniel) Edwards. Assembly at Hartford. Imprint 'New-London, Printed by Timothy Green, 1763' on the back. These notes were due on May 1, 1765 and paid 5% interest. Fully Crisp Uncirculated, and exceptional as such. The upper left end as well as the bottom are trimmed in slightly. However, one of the highest grade notes on this issue we have seen. This is a note that Newman catalogues in his book at $1,000 in Good. A strong Condition Census note with great certainty and perhaps superior to the example we sold in Ford III in May (lot 554) for $6,325.00. This note was last auctioned nearly sixteen years ago when it brought $2,310! It is worth much more today with certainty.
Ex Grand Central Sale #75 (NASCA Division of R.M. Smythe & Co., November, 1988, lot 320).
