South Carolina. March 6, 1776 Resolve. Fifteen Pounds. Rattlesnake Attacking British Lion Vignette. MAGNIS INTERDUM PARVA NOCENT. No.8983. Signed by Jacob Motte, Roger Smith, Jn. Huger and Will.[iam] Parker [vertically, to the right]. Printed on blue laid paper. Standard size, approximately 120mm by 80mm. Uniface, elaborate border cuts. Vignette and motto at lower right. A great patriotic American themed note. This type is printed on blue and white laid paper types. There were 9,000 notes printed of this type and most notes known have some sort of deformity in the way of tears, chinks, splits, repairs, and other maladies.
A superior note of this type. Very clean surfaced from the face with strong paper quality. This blue laid paper was used less often than white from our experience cataloguing the issue. Very Fine to Extremely Fine. Two vertical folds, moderate to light. Some other minor handling. Well margined mostly, just a little close at the bottom right edge. Paper mounting strip along upper back edge.
Ex F.C.C. Boyd Estate.
William Parker is not listed as a signer on this Resolve, but the first name is fairly clear on the notes in this sale.
