South Carolina. March 6, 1776 Resolve. Seventeen Shillings & Six Pence. No.4917. Signed by Russell...South Carolina. March 6, 1776 Resolve. Seventeen Shillings & Six Pence. No.4917. Signed by Russell and Wm. Doughty. Printed on laid paper. Uniface. Typeset, vertical format note with ornamental frame. 44mm by 84mm. Black and orange texts with Hebrew and Greek letters used. The small denomination, vertical format notes are rare on this issue and a distinctive format. Though there were 10,000 notes printed, most were worn out or redeemed for higher denomination notes later. The Newman Plate Note, so illustrated on page 417 of the fourth edition.

A bright and vivid note. Split in half, a common impairment on notes of this type on the issue, and rejoined from the back center with a tissue paper strip. Otherwise, Fine to Very Fine. Excellent color and margins. A few hard to see pinholes. A specialized, but significant note and a great rarity.

Ex F.C.C. Boyd Estate.
