State of North Carolina. May 10, 1780 Act. Twenty Five Dollars. Hora Pacis & Libertatis appropinquat....State of North Carolina. May 10, 1780 Act. Twenty Five Dollars. Hora Pacis & Libertatis appropinquat. No.6318. Signed by W.[aightsill] Avery and M. Frank. Printed on thin laid paper. Typeset face with ornamental borders. Simple pattern back, similar to 1778 notes, with imprint 'Printed by James Davis, 1780'. The second of the six motto types used on $25 notes on the Act with 8,000 printed per Newman's listing. This is the only example of either paper type in the Ford-Boyd Collection. The relative rarity of the mottoes on this series is the domain of only a few well heeled specialists. Very Fine. Light vertical fold and handling. Fairly bright with some light surface soling visible, mainly on the back. Tiny upper left field pinhole.

Ex F.C.C. Boyd Estate.

The back pattern corresponds to the 1778 $1/8 note roughly. It is not a recut plate, merely a use of the same ornament cuts.
