Maryland. January 1, 1767. One Third of a Dollar or One Shilling Six Pence Sterling. No.11373. Signed by R.[obert] Couden and J.[ohn] Clapham. Printed on sturdy stock. Elaborate border cuts by Sparrow, Colonial Maryland Arms sideways at right. Nature print back. Imprint 'Printed by JONAS GREEN' on back. Not a rare series or type, however a superb example that likely came from the Wayte Raymond estate inventory. Certainly the finest we have seen or catalogued. Average grade seen for this note type is ''Very Good'' or so, with many split, tattered and pinned together.
Choice Crisp Uncirculated, and on the cusp of Gem Crisp Uncirculated. Bold as the day it was printed on superbly crisp stock. There is some light handling at the left end with a tiny edge nick. Well margined on three sides, especially so at the right. The back is not centered, but skewed ten degrees to the upper right. A real beauty and for the condition census advocate. Hard to evaluate a note that catalogues in Newman only until Very Fine. There may have been a small ''hoard'' way back in 1930, but that event means little today. An awesome opportunity.
