Colony of New York. March 5, 1776. One Dollar. No.17551. Signed by C.[ornelius] Ray and Wm. Heyer. Printed on thinner stock than previous notes. Ornate border cuts, New York Arms at the right. Back with small circular emblem at left with sheaf of wheat, motto ACERVUS E PARVIS GRANDIS. Imprint 'Printed by Samuel Loudon, in the Year M, DCC, LXXVI'. A classic American and New York Colonial dollar note this was not denominated in British Sterling as well). Crisp Uncirculated and close to Choice. The centering on the face is shifted to the right and the back is shifted down and to the left. Excellent (an understatement) paper quality with some minor rubbing on the corners. A beauty!
Ex T. James Clarke Collection; Henry Chapman.
This note style is plagued by thousands of modern fakes on the thin, false parchment paper sold as souvenirs.
