1789 Mott Token. Thin Planchet. Plain Edge. Copper. 126.1 grains. Choice Extremely Fine. Glossy, rich chestnut brown surfaces are smooth and trouble-free. Struck from the early states of the dies, without any sign of cracking or breaking. Dies are rotated about 90 degrees from coin turn. The Plain Edge, Thin Planchet variety is considered very scarce and commands a strong premium over the usually encountered Thick Planchet variety. Numismatists debate whether this coin is an issue of 1789 or of a later, early 19th century vintage, but long numismatic tradition has ensconced this issue among other ''Colonial'' issues, which is also where the Red Book lists the Mott Token.
