1788 Connecticut Copper. Miller 13-A.1 (R-5). CONNLC. Mailed Bust Left. 114.8 grains. About Uncirculated, or finer. Glossy, light chestnut brown surfaces are supremely glossy and exhibit very subtle hints of mint red at the edges of the devices. This variety comes unevenly struck, and the present specimen is no exception, with the rough, original planchet surface showing through at points on the obverse and reverse. Struck slightly off-center on both sides, affecting only the tops of some letters. The fine die preparation lines are clearly visible in the fields where this coin is fully struck, attesting to the high grade of this coveted coin. This CONNLC variety is very scarce, and this specimen is clearly Condition Census, with perhaps only the Garrett specimen topping it for finest honors. Finer than Ford's, Taylor's, and Perkins' specimens, among others. Here is a small trophy for the Connecticut die variety collector.
