1787 Connecticut Copper. Miller 16.6-NN.2 (Rarity-5+). Draped Bust Left. 166.5 grains. Extremely Fine. The surfaces are quite smooth and exhibit abundant natural mint gloss, where not interrupted by planchet laminations that have begun to corrode a bit. The peripheries are very well struck, while the strike in the center has not obliterated this coin's inherent planchet roughness. The date is mostly full, missing only the bottoms of the initial '17'. Despite its intermittent planchet roughness, this coin is quite attractive and probably rests comfortably in the Condition Census for this variety, not far below Hessberg's magnificent Mint State coin.
