1773 Virginia Halfpenny. Newman 8-H (?). No Period after GEORGIVS. 7 Harp Strings. 110.6 gns. Fine....1773 Virginia Halfpenny. Newman 8-H (?). No Period after GEORGIVS. 7 Harp Strings. 110.6 gns. Fine. Surfaces are dark brown and lightly porous, with a deep apple green patina in the fields. Due to the wear and granularity of the fields, it is hard to tell if there are periods after the date and VIRGINIA, as there should be on reverse H. In addition, the large lion seems not to touch the line, unlike reverse H, which should touch the line. This coin represents either an 8-H whose details have become distorted due to wear or possibly a new die combination of obverse 8.
