1799 B.22 (R-5). Fine from an overall standpoint, the reverse is easily that of a strong Very Fine. This variety is easily recognized by the heavy horizontal die crack that bisects the reverse. The obverse is significantly less bold, displaying the general detail of Very Good or better. This smooth lilac-gray example reveals only a couple of minor ancient rim marks at the lower left obverse.
It is important to note that according to Bowers-Borckardt, the finest known examples of this scarce variety are only in the Extremely Fine to Choice Extremely Fine grade range.
