1795 O.110 (R-3). The '9' in the date exhibits recutting as does the fifth star on the obverse. The reverse berries on the wreath are arranged nine left and eight right with there being only two inside berries and no outside berries beneath either wing. Brilliant Uncirculated and a highly compelling specimen. This rich olive-jade beauty is accented by hints of pale gold and lavender-rose iridescent overtones. The strike, though not entirely full, is balanced and quite flattering in terms of overall presentation. Smooth, wonderfully satisfying fields and devices are free of all but the most inconsequential of trivial defects. This very rare, entrancing example retains plenty of underlying mint frost and certainly is a Condition Census candidate for this die variety.
Although the Condition Census listed in Overton does not indicate any examples of this die variety above Extremely Fine-45, it should be noted that several Mint State specimens have surfaced over the ensuing years. Despite the discovery of these new examples, this variety remains quite challenging to acquire in any grade at or near the Mint State classification. In fact, acquiring an aesthetically pleasing, high quality example of this type regardless of the die variety in question is a very formidable task, as most technically high grade specimens are either dark, dull, or otherwise unappealing.
