1922 VAM 2C. The so-called ''extra hair'' variety. A slightly curving, near vertical obverse die break at the back of Liberty's lower hair gives this rare, highly collectible variety its name. The currently offered specimen displays a fully developed, late state of this die break. Very Choice Brilliant Uncirculated and by all but the most conservative accounts, a full Gem specimen. A deep shade of forest-green intermingles with paler traces of lavender toning. The fields and design features, furthermore, are free of all but the most minor of surface imperfections. According to Oxman and Close, the condition census for this variety includes no examples that grade higher than MS64 (NGC has since graded a single coin MS65). The currently offered premium quality specimen, therefore, is certainly a candidate for the finest known! Very conservatively graded PCGS MS64 in a first generation holder. We certainly encourage the advanced Peace Dollar collector to avail him/herself of this unusual opportunity as the surviving population in any Mint State grade is abysmally small.
