1799 B.10b (R-3). Brilliant Uncirculated, with claims to Choice. Dark gray near the rims, with lighter gray to the centers. The strike is quite sharp on the very late die state coin, with desirable separation on Liberty's curls, and well formed stars surrounding. On the reverse the die has shattered, with thin cracks spanning the peripheries and connecting many devices. Identifiable by a couple of minute edge ticks left of the date. Not a particularly rare variety, but it is quite unusual to find an example in any Uncirculated grade. As such, an opportunity for the specialist. Interesting die cracks on the reverse include one which splits the right side of the 'O' in OF in two pieces, then a later crack crosses the first, offsetting it by a clear margin as the die broke apart under the extreme stresses of striking. The 'O' now has a comical and broken appearance.
