1795 B.2 (R-3). Two Leaves Below Each Wing. Choice Extremely Fine. Delightful dark gray fields offset the lighter silver device of Liberty. Sharply struck for an early Dollar, with good definition on Liberty's curls and the eagle's wing feathers. There are a couple of shallow scratches and nicks, one above the 'STAT' of STATES will serve to hallmark this coin. On balance, the rims, fields, devices and eye appeal are better than usually encountered, even for this grade. The Flowing Hair design is the first style employed on Silver Dollars. They are represented by a large number of die pairings, and capture the style and essence of the late 1790s quite well. Having a collection of these early Dollars in high grade is quite an achievement, and makes for an impressive display of historic Americana. A scarce die pairing, seen far less often than the Bolender 1 or 5 varieties.
