1794 Overton 105 (R-5). Fine, and a satisfying example of this popular date. The reverse is typically soft on the eagle's head and tops of the wings, but this is diagnostic to this die pairing. Struck from the middle die state, which lacks the later die crack spanning the upper reverse. The surfaces are clean and attractive for this first year of issue, with medium gunmetal gray fields offsetting the lighter silver-gray devices and lettering. Identifiable by a few shallow scratches on the obverse, one extending between 'ER' of LIBERTY down the middle of Liberty's head through her curls, and also by a trivial rim tick above the 'D' of UNITED. The color and surfaces of this coin lack the usual adjustment marks or other distractions which so often plague this date. Considerably scarcer than the O.101 die pairing, and one of the few other varieties of this date that can be located with patience.
