Jewel-sharp strike is vividly apparent in the faceted stars and sharply toothed borders. Steely silver surfaces are wonderfully smooth and appealing. The right base of '1' is missing in the well-centered '10 C' below the eagle. This coin can only be called a lovely, high grade example.

All 1823 Dimes are overdates, as both obverses used this year were intended for the 1822 coinage. That year's dime coinage was small and there were a number of unused 1822 dies on hand at the end of the year that were quickly overdated for use in 1823. There are two variants for the 1823 Dimes, those with small E's on the reverse and those with large ones. The present coin's obverse and reverse are toned in a pleasing silver-gray with pale iridescent green and light gold over bright and reflective fields.
