1855 N.11 (Low R-7). Slanting 5's. Gem Proof-65. Brown. Light chocolate-brown toning still retains considerable underlying mint red. Iridescent champagne and lilac highlights enhance both the fields and design features when examined under a light. All surfaces are wonderfully free of disturbing spots or contact marks that warrant attention. Extremely rare. Although no provenance is known, this coin could in all probability be traced into the past through old photographic plates in the several sales specified in the late Walter Breen's Encyclopedia of U.S. and Colonial Proof Coins.
