1841 N.6. This is the Newcomb Plate Coin. Mint State-67. Full red obverse and reverse, with outstanding eye appeal and mint color throughout. One minor speck of fading is found below Liberty's hair bun, and a thin keg mark is present at the center of the reverse between the 'N's, and a dull nick on the center of the 'E' of CENT. Further identification features are a minute edge flaw above star two, another similar minor flaw below 'ST' of STATES in the field. There are other microscopic handling ticks, but this coin is absolutely impressive for a Large Cent of any date. A highlight for the advanced specialist.
Ex Howard Newcomb Collection, Part II (J.C. Morgenthau, May 1945, lot 723); Floyd T. Starr Collection, Part I (Stack's, June 1984, lot 411); Herman Halpern Collection (Stack's, March 1988, lot 546).
