1817 N.13. Close Date, Double Denticle Left of Date, 'C' in CENT Leans Right. Mint State-63. A boldly struck example of this variety which retains full cartwheel lustre. This would be a full Mint State-65 were it not for an old carbon spot right of the 'Y' in LIBERTY and a few others of less consequence. Intermediate die state with the engraver's scratch barely extending beyond the inner curve of the 'C' in AMERICA. Although a Randall Hoard variety, the present coin is certainly a lovely example that most specialists will appreciate.
Ex Charles M. Williams Collection (Abe Kosoff, November 1950, lot 273); Jerry Bobbe in 1972; C. Douglas Smith; Herman Halpern Collection (Stack's, March 1988, lot 341).
