Fantastic mirror gleam in the glass-smooth fields complements the perfect light frosting of the devices and reliefs, all laved in a most delicate flush of clear rose-gold. A hairline or two can be found with effort. This is the rarest Gold denomination of this historic date with only 72 pieces struck, just enough for the Gold Proof sets offered by the Mint to the few collectors of Proof Gold then active. An idea of the rarity today is provided by the 10-year auction record prepared by Dannreuther and Garrett, showing 13 Proof appearances, only two of which were Choice.
