1838 Choice Brilliant Uncirculated. Bright and lustrous throughout, with typical ancient orange-gold toning so rarely seen on early gold these days. The strike is sharp, particularly on Liberty's rounded curls. A single star above her head band lacks full radial lines, otherwise this coin boasts a near perfect strike. Even the reverse shows full knobby claws on the eagle, and all the feathers are crisp. Examination with a magnifier will find trivial handling ticks, primarily in the fields, but these fail to detract significantly. Liberty's face and neck are clean and attractive. One for the collector who demands coins from an old time collection and extreme eye appeal.
