1829 Br.1, BD.24 (R-5). Brilliant Uncirculated, with claims to Choice. The Garrett Coin and Akers Plate Coin. One of the difficult type coins of this era to obtain, with few being offered of quality in any given year. The present coin has delightfully clean surfaces, which match its stellar pedigree. It is fully struck and shows bright yellow-gold color throughout. The lustre is strong and undisturbed save for a scattering of trivial ticks. Liberty's cheek and neck are quite clean and attractive. On the reverse there are faint diagonal adjustment marks from left up to the right on the vertical shield lines. These adjustment marks were obliterated by the force of striking elsewhere on the reverse. No striking softness is present on either side. For identification purposes, there is a small cluster of nicks between stars eight and nine above Liberty's cap. It is believed that approximately 40 specimens of this date have survived, that from the original mintage of 3,403 pieces.
Ex The Garrett Collection (Bowers and Ruddy, March 1980, lot 746); W. Elliot Woodward's 58th Sale.
