1916 Gem Brilliant Uncirculated. This is the first year of issue of this delightful new design by Adolph Weinman, who also designed the new Mercury Dime introduced in 1916. America's coinage was entering a Golden Age of design, with highly artistic devices, and intricacies unimaginable in periods before or since. The surfaces are awash in satiny lustre and examination will find traces of iridescence on the obverse, and a dusting of hazy russet mixed over the surfaces. Identifiable by a minor tick in the right obverse field near Liberty's elbow, and on the reverse by a tiny nick on the upper wing feather tip near the rim at the 3:00 position.
