1840''O'' (No Mintmark) WB.101. Medium Letters. Good. While actually struck at the New Orleans Mint, there is no mintmark on this coin, as the original 1839 Capped Bust die sported an obverse mintmark which was paired with this particular reverse die. Nevertheless, the upstart New Orleans Mint used this leftover reverse die in 1840; as no mintmark was added to this reverse die, and the new Liberty Seated obverses were similarly lacking a mintmark, this New Orleans issue mimics a Philadelphia striking! Some hairlines from a past cleaning affect the surfaces, which are retoning nicely with dark gray accents; 1840 WB.101. Normal Date, Small Letters. Fine but lightly cleaned. A few minor rim nicks at the 4:00 position on the obverse. Average surfaces. Overshadowed by the rarity and story of the prior coin. 1855'O' WB.101. With Arrows. Good. Dark gray and attractive. A collector lot for the first coin alone. 3 pieces.
