1873'CC' No Arrows. WB.101. Brilliant Uncirculated, with claims to Choice. The obverse and reverse are bathed in delicate golden lustre which remains undisturbed and undiminished by the usual hairlines. There are minute rim ticks on the obverse adjacent to the last two stars, matching on the reverse above 'ED' of UNITED where a similar disturbance is found. The strike is reasonably sharp on the obverse stars, Liberty's head and gown. The reverse too, is bold on the eagle's talons, feathers and legend. Thin die cracks extend through portions of the legend and denomination, particularly on the lower right quadrant. For identification purposes, there is a reeding nick on the lower portion of Liberty's rock, the rim ticks noted and a shallow pin scratch above the right side of the motto. Likely within the top two dozen known of this date, and a thoroughly impressive coin for the date or mint collector. The No Arrows mintage came in at 122,500 pieces, about one half as many as coined With Arrows. All No Arrows coins have the ''Closed 3'' style date, with the mintmark high, small and close to the branch.
Ex an undetermined auction, circa 1969-75, lot 643.
