1872 WB.101. Gem Brilliant Uncirculated, and an absolute beauty! The fields are wonderfully smooth and appealing, and the strike is bold throughout. A sparkling white coin that has a russet-gold frame around the rim. For sheer quality, the present coin would be hard to best. While certainly not a rare date, and perhaps not even one of the technically finest known, this coin is more than presentable, and any collector will long enjoy its wondrous qualities. Identifiable by a small nick on Liberty's drapery in the middle of her left thigh. Put away in 1966 by our consignor, and a worthy coin to have kept the last forty years. Long ago we loved this coin when it crossed through our offices in 1966, and here it is again and we still love it today. Perhaps the buyer will be kind enough to let us auction it again in 2046--or sooner.
Ex Maurice Bauman Collection (Stack's, December 1966, lot 178).
