 1868 Choice Brilliant Proof, with claims to Gem. The color of steel-gray dominates the surfaces, although a ring of golden-russet is seen near the edge, especially on the reverse. Moderate hairlines are found in the fields, and these slip in and out of view when turned under a light. Proof mintage for the year slipped to a mere 600 pieces.
