1867 Gem Brilliant Proof. The obverse has a thin ring of blue and gold toning near the extreme edge, while the centers are bright white. Perfectly matched on the reverse, with perhaps more golden toning over the surfaces. Well frosted on the devices, and the fields are wonderfully clean for an early Proof coin. Rarely are hairlines so faint on these, and finding a Gem can be a challenge for the collector. The Philadelphia Mint coined just 625 pieces for the year.
