Sharply struck on all but a couple of the upper right obverse stars and exceptional for this date and mint. The surfaces are a delight to study, with scarcely a nick or mark present. Frosty lustre throughout, and toned with rich golden-russet hues over the entire surface with a touch of gunmetal blue on the lower reverse lettering and rim, and specks of russet on the upper right reverse. While not a particularly scarce issue, in this lofty grade there are certainly no more than a few known, and the present coin is likely tied with perhaps a couple of others as the Finest to survive of this date. An exceptional coin for the specialist who demands Gem quality. PCGS MS65.

Ex The ANA Auction (Bowers and Merena, August 2000, lot 4125).
