A frosty white coin save for a dusting of blue and gold near the edge and good eye appeal for the grade. There are some minor hairline scratches in the left obverse, but they are faint and blend well with the lustrous field. Fairly well struck although a couple of stars lack their radials. The edge lettering is blundered, portions are tripled, others doubled, and quite interesting to study. Early die state with the repunching on the date sharp. While the upper tiny serifs of the '7' are present well above the '9', the upright post seems odd, in particular the lump located at the lower right of the '9'. An interesting example of this popular overdate and worthy of any advanced collection.

Ex Irving Goodman Collection (Superior, May 1996, lot 935).
