 1807 O.113. Small Stars. Gem Brilliant Uncirculated. This coin is the Finest graded of the Small Stars variety by PCGS by a full 3 points, and it certainly is in the Condition Census and equal to the Pryor/Merkin March 1972, lot 133 coin, graded similarly. Deep tawny gold and russet with a blush of blue in the fields covers both sides. The surfaces are smooth and attractive. For identification a tiny scuff in the field near the inner point of the second star, a minute tick on the upper edge of Liberty's chest at the junction of her drapery, on the reverse by a tiny speck between 'IC' of AMERICA.
No finer example of 1807 Capped Bust Half Dollar is likely to exist, and any collector will be quite proud of this desirable coin. The strike is typically weak on center curl over Liberty's neck, more so on the right wing of the eagle and neck. Triple clashmarks are present in the fields, and this is a middle die state with the reverse die crack present through the motto, but the obverse crack does not extend through all the stars on the left. A simply marvelous example of this elusive coin. PCGS MS65.
